Topic: Investigating the cortical encoding of sensory memories in a virtual reality context
My name is Lea (23), and I am currently interning at the Garner lab at Harvard Medical School. The Garner lab aims to reveal how memories shape the perception of sensory information. The subproject I will work on will investigate the neuronal correlates of different virtual reality (VR) contexts, as VR is finding increased application in research and treating neuropsychiatric diseases. However, little is known about how experiences in VR are encoded in the brain. My responsibilities will include two-photon-microscopy and cranial window surgeries. I joined the lab at the end of September and am incredibly excited to start working with the team. I am grateful for this opportunity and look forward to broadening my scientific horizon and skill set.
