For the first time in the history of the Austrian Marshall Plan Foundation an exchange of apprentices will take place: Twenty-two Austrian apprentices will learn about professional training in the United States while on exchange there. At the same time, the Foundation warns of the consequences of digitalization in the workplace: "One out of two jobs is affected."

"We are breaking new ground with with the exchange of apprentices," said Wolfgang Petritsch, President of the Austrian Marshall Plan Foundation during the Marshall Plan Symposium on Wednesday at Amerika Haus in Vienna.

This year, 22 apprentices from Austria will travel to the United States for the first time within the framework of a pilot program. The apprentices are being trained in the areas of retail sales and the tourism - and leisure industry and hail from the Burgenland and from Lower Austria. They will travel to Oxford, OH for three weeks where they will experience American culture, improve their language skills, and also learn about the economic and educational systems. The apprentice exchange is being administered in cooperation with AFS Austauschprogramme für interkulturelles Lernen.
