Eva Schernhammer
Prof. Dr. Eva Schernhammer is Board Member of the Austrian Marshall Plan Foundation an internationally recognized epidemiologist and physician. She has been Professor of Epidemiology and Head of the Department of Epidemiology at the Medical University of Vienna since 2015 while maintaining active research programs at Harvard Medical School and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.
A graduate of the Medical University of Vienna (MD, 1992), she initially focused on oncology during her clinical work at SMZ-Süd in Vienna before transitioning to academic research. In 2003, she joined the faculty of Harvard Medical School and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, where she earned her Doctor of Public Health in Epidemiology (DrPH, 2003) and a Master of Public Health (MPH, 2000). She also holds an MSc in Psychology from the University of Vienna. Since 2022, she is an elected member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, and since 2024 a corresponding member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences.
Mrs Schernhammer’s research focuses on public health, circadian rhythms, and chronic disease including cancer epidemiology. In 2005, she received her Habilitation in Public Health from the Medical University of Vienna.
